Is America a Banana Republic?

Simon Johnson, former IMF lead economist, suggests in an Atlantic article that the USA has the signs of a banana republic.

"The crash has laid bare many unpleasant truths about the United States. One of the most alarming, says a former chief economist of the International Monetary Fund, is that the finance industry has effectively captured our government—a state of affairs that more typically describes emerging markets, and is at the center of many emerging-market crises. If the IMF’s staff could speak freely about the U.S., it would tell us what it tells all countries in this situation: recovery will fail unless we break the financial oligarchy that is blocking essential reform. And if we are to prevent a true depression, we’re running out of time."

Should Women Wear Mustaches?

Paul Henry, a New Zealand morning show host, insulted a Green Peace guest. He mentioned an e-mail he received that commented on her mustache.

Poor guy got into a lot of hot water for making such a statement. And it was pretty tacky. But it does raise an interesting question of why so many women now have masculine traits?

The Rapture!

So I was on a radio show last night, and the host asked me if I believed in The Rapture. I told her no, I did not. She then accused me of not obviously being a Christian. I tried to explain that The Rapture was a relatively modern concept that was derived by the Dispensationalist movement. I also tried to explain that differences in opinion concerning eschatology (dealing with the End Times) were acceptable with Christianity. But she would hear none of it. I was obviously a tool of Satan.

This only reason that this story is relevant is that the Dispensationalist movement has pretty much dominated Christian politics over the past 50 years. The influence of the Christian Right has helped shaped our country’s foreign policy. The entire neo-conservative movement was birthed from the unholy alliance of the Zionist Christians with the secular Jewish Zionists. Such an alliance would not have been possible but for Dispensationalism.

The proponents of The Rapture (such as Hal Lindsey) have made a lot of money with their sensationalist claims. They seem to read the newspaper with one hand and The Bible with the other hand. These so called prophets have made many false predictions concerning the date of the Rapture over the past century. And, yet, these people never seem to lose their credibility.

In the Old Testament, false prophets were executed. In modern times, these people just write a new book and make more money.

The Policeman is our friend

There have been a couple of stories in the news recently concerning police acting poorly. Now that video cameras are ubiquitous, people are surprised to see how many cops act. I guess in my dealings with the police, I have never maintained that they are the heroes as portrayed on television. In real life, police tend to attract people who have a bully nature.

And I suppose that having an aggressive nature is necessary for the job. After all, the historical purpose of the police is to act as the hired thugs to keep the rulers in power. If you get out of line, you get a baton across the head. This is how it has always been.

Traditional conservatives (unlike neo-conservatives) have always understood the dangers of the police and the police state.

Below are a couple of videos recently in the news concerning this sort of behavior. For every video you see, there are a 1,000 incidents that you don’t see. The cops below were just too stupid to destroy the evidence.

In this video, the heroic cops beats up a 15 year old girl in a cell:

And in his video the police screws with an African American preventing him from seeing his dying mother-in-law.

Man On Wire

Philippe Petit captured the world's attention in 1974 when he successfully walked across a high wire between New York's Twin Towers. A documentary was created called Man On Wire that explored the planning of this feat.

While the movie was nominally about wire walking, the story was really about daring to be adventurousness enough to chase your dreams. You can’t help but feel great after watching this documentary.

Ghosts Haunt OSU!

OCOLLY.COM reported on ghosts sighted in the OSU library. I suppose of the quirky nature of the story, it was picked up on some national news feeds. I was somewhat interested as my daughter attends OSU and I have been in the haunted library.

I thought it would be fun to interview some of the security guards cited in the article. Unfortunately, their story was not as interesting as reported. I did find it interesting on how journalists start early in “embellishing” stories.

I also discuss some real life ghost stories. Any of you have any interesting real life ghost stories?

The post today contains two videos. The first video is my interview of Parry Aftab, an attorney and one of the leading authorities on Internet security and cyberbullying. We talked about the issue of “sexting”. “Sexting” is the slang term for send pornographic images via a cell phone camera. The problem is that many of the images are of underage children – hence they are considered child porn. The other issue is that these images are sometimes used to harass and intimidate kids who were foolish enough to release such an image.

The send video is the one I created yesterday concerning my thoughts on blogging and sexting. I was unable to publish to this blog yesterday because Youtube was down for maintenance.

Confessions of a Neo Luddite

I am philosophically primarily sympathetic to the Libertarian and Capitalist economic positions. However, if technology continues to improve to the degree fewer humans are needed for jobs, what will those people do? The standard answer is that something else will always be developed that will provide more and better jobs.

Such an answer has become almost axiomatic. But what if there is nothing else? What if we simply will need fewer people to work? Do we let those people die? Will such people accept their potential starvation in a land of plenty?

Deadly Spider Attacks Tulsa!

Folks, we have a serious situation here in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The world’s deadliest spider, the Brazilian Wandering Spider, was found in a Whole Food Market. The spider was captured and sent to the University of Tulsa. The experts at Tulsa University confirmed that this was the deadly and merciless Brazilian Wandering Spider.

Then the authorities quickly and mysteriously changed the story. The Tulsa Zoo claims that the spider was misidentified and that the professor at Tulsa University was wrong. Adding to the confusion is that the body of the spider has mysteriously disappeared.

This whole episode is reminding me of the 9/11 cover-ups and the Roswell UFO cover-up. Obviously, the elites are trying to discredit this important story.

Here is an artist rendition of what could happen if this race of super spiders should mutate and be set free in Tulsa.

I am also disturbed that Whole Foods refuses to spray their fruit to kill the spiders. This is another case of putting profits before people.

Airline Stewardess uncovered as porn star!

The Sun has uncovered that a Ryanair flight attendant is secretly a porn star! It seems that Edita Schindlerova, 22, secretly appears on X-rated websites posing as Edita Bente.

Obviously, this strikes at the heart of the dignity of the airline industry and the flight attendant profession. And, yet, Ryanair has no plans to take action against this flight attendant.

If we don’t stop Ryanair in Europe, we might also one day see the return of pretty, thin and young stewardesses in the United States. We obviously don’t want to return to those dark days.

I need you guys to spam a poll so that we can voice our opinion and stop the travesty!

The poll can be found here:

Below is a video of a recent Ryanair corporate press conference. It is amazing that this is a real airline!

Husband left with $2000 tattoo of cheating wife

Here is a heartwarming story of a British man who has the picture of his wife and two daughters inked on his back. She has an affair with her fitness instructor and kicks him out of the house. He gets to pay alimony and child support.

In an unrelated news item, the British government is funding a study to try to determine why young British men are avoiding marriage.

Are Ron Paul and Constitution supporters terrorists?

According to the Missouri Information Analysis Center, the following people are considered potential terrorists:

Ron Paul supporters
Constitution supporters
People opposed to the Federal Reserve

Here is a commentary by Joseph Farah of WorldNetDaily:

My response:

Once the government started to ignore the rule of law and the Constitution under the guise of fighting “terrorism”, many defenders of liberty warned that this was setting a dangerous precedent. For while you might be happy to see the “bad guys” tortured and sent to concentration camps without due processes, you won’t be so thrilled when the government considers YOU to be a potential terrorist based on your beliefs.

The greatest threat to our freedoms is not from terrorists, Iran, China or Russian. The greatest threat has always been our own government. The Founding Fathers recognized this danger and created a Constitution with the design to limit the power of government.

Bruno Attempts To Seduce Ron Paul

Sasha Cohen, playing the flaming gay character called Bruno, reportedly attempted to seduce Ron Paul during an interview. I guess he pulled down his pants in front on Ron Paul. I am not sure how playing on the trust of a mild mannered man in his 70s is that edgy or funny. If he pulled such a stunt on Nancy Pelosi, he probably would have been arrested for sexual assault.

Sasha has a quick mind and I admire his improv ability. But lately his act has started to wear thin. There is a fine line between clever and stupid. And pulling down his pants in front of an elderly man probably falls into the stupid category.

Below is a video of his Bruno character.

Judge Stops Homeschooling?

In the conservative blog sphere there is much ado about a divorce case in which the judge ruled that a mother needed to send her home school children to public school. While I support homeschooling, this case really concerns issues of divorce, not homeschooling.

As the mother filed for divorced, should she be permitted to not work and home school the children? And why do we assume that the mother should win custody? Would these conservative sites be OK if the father won custody and stayed home to school the children while the mother worked to pay alimony and child support? I imagine they would be singing a different tune.

Leave Jay Cutler Alone!

Sometimes we get distracted concerning issues of the terrorism and the economy that we forget to focus on the important issues. And one of the greatest issues we face as a nation is that Jay Cutler, the Denver Broncos quarterback, is unhappy with his new coach.

Josh McDaniels, the new coach of the Broncos, tried to Jay Cutler. This hurt Jay to the core. Jay is not certain if he can get over this hurt to play for only 6 million dollars a year. As such, his agent, Bus Cook, has reportedly demanded that the Broncos sign Jay to an extended contract worth 100 million dollars.

Hang in there Jay! Realize that sometimes BAD things happen to GOOD people. I hope you find the strength to recover from this terrible insult you received.

(FYI - this is a pardoy of a famous Chris Crocker YouTube video. I don't really care much about football.)

Dell Customer Service From Hell

My daughter’s Dell laptop computer died last week. The computer was her graduation gift. It is less than two years old.

Based on my research I determined that the motherboard burned out due to a faulty NVidia chip. Dell has extended the warranty for some of the models that had this chip. Unfortunately, this does not include my daughter’s computer.

I called Dell support to try to resolve this issue. Instead of technical help, I got a lecture concerning saving planet Earth. Dell needs to focus more on building computers that last more than two years before they take on the task of saving the Earth.

Is the Game of Life Gay?

Conservative web site WorldNetDaily claims that Milton Bradley’s children's game pushes same-sex marriage.

WorldNetDaily has as the lead story today, an exclusive report exposing how the popular children’s board game, The Game of Life, pushes same sex marriage.

Per the article by Drew Zahn -

"The original 1860 Milton Bradley game, known as the Checkered Game of Life, was completely redesigned in 1960, bearing almost no resemblance to the original. The new game board included the winding track, spinner and plastic buildings familiar to many.

The redesign also included car game pieces that could be filled with plastic pegs representing a player's growing "family." The board game did not prevent players in any way from placing two pink or two blue pegs in the front seat, thus depicting a homosexual couple."

I want to thank WorldNetDaily for pretty much giving me an endless supply of material.

Coed Bathrooms!

WorldNetDaily has reported on a proposed bill (HB474/SB566) in Maryland that would allow people to use the restroom of the opposite sex based on what they consider to be their “gender identity”. This means that a biological man could use a woman’s restroom! And the person standing in front of the urinal next to me could me could be a woman!

I already hate having to pee in a trough in some dirty football stadium restroom. Knowing that women could enter such a place would definitely ruin my concentration. And, yet, such could be a reality for men in Maryland if this bill passes.

Maryland Citizens for a Responsible Government consider this proposal to be the gravest threat that has ever faced the good citizens of Maryland. The director of the organization, Ruth Jacobs, was kind enough to explain this issue to me.

On a totally unrelated note, below is a video of Pink Floyd, one of my all time favorite bands. They don’t make bands like this anymore.

Shine On Pink! :-)

White House Council on Men and Boys

The White House plans to create a group of experts to advise President Barack Obama on men’s issues. The creation of this group is timed to Men’s History Month.

Obviously it is a silly waste of money to create such an advisory group. But beyond the waste of money, do we really need a special group formed exclusively to promote the interests of men? The formation of such a group is obviously discriminatory and sexist. We need a government that advocates the interests of all the citizens, not just men.

It is an upside down world.

Is Obama eligible to be President of the United States?

WorldNetDaily, a leading conservative news web site, has been promoting an on-line petition to remove Obama as President of the United States. The basic claim is that Obama may not have been born as a natural citizen of the United States. As such, this would violate Article 2 of the Constitution.

I find it a tad hypocritical for a news organization that supported John McCain for President is now questioning the eligibility of Obama. (John McCain was born in Panama, not the United States).

I also find it interesting that the Republican Party is suddenly interested in following the Constitution. The mainstream conservatives tend to be silent on matters such as the President sending troops to combat without a congressional declaration of War. The Constitution is quite clear that only Congress has the authority to declare war.

For years both the Democrats and Republicans have ignored and trashed the Constitution. As such, it is hard for me to take the Republicans seriously now that they claim to be such strict Constitutionalists.

I think Obama is a disaster as a President. Without a teleprompter (see video below) he is not as articulate as we were led to believe. However, we need to focus on the real issues and not become obsessed with borderline tin foil conspiracy theories.

Crescent of Betrayal?

I was forwarded an e-mail recently that warned how the proposed Flight 93 memorial was designed in a crescent shape to honor Islam and desecrate the memory of the brave passengers. This sounded like somewhat of an Internet urban legend, so I decided to do my own investigation.

I was surprised to learn that Congress had authorized 57 million dollars to create a giant memorial in the field in which the plane crashed. The field has been purchased by the government and it is now operated under the National Park Service. The proposed memorial is something of a gigantic theme park. I thought that a modest monument listing the names of the passengers would be appropriate. I could not imagine that the government would try to turn this rather minor incident (historically speaking) into something on the historical significance of a Gettysburg.

The memorial design was awarded to Beverly Hills architects Paul and Milena Murdoch. Their proposed design was an intricate display which includes:

The Field of Honor
Entry Portal
40 Memorial Graves
Sacred (?) Grounds
Western Overlook

This memorial is all enclosed with giant slabs in a crescent shape. The original name was called Crescent of Embrace.

Well, it seems that some people became upset assuming that the crescent shape was somehow advocating Islam. This is somewhat strange as the crescent has been a popular architectural form used in Christendom for the past 2,000 years.

But to try to quell the controversy, the architects further closed the crescent with trees and renamed the memorial The Circle of Embrace. However, this did not calm the controversy as many people still saw a crescent shape hidden within the memorial.

The idea that architects from Beverly Hills would somehow secretly try to pay homage to the Islam faith seems rather implausible to me. The entire memorial reeks of the typical religious phobic, New Age, politically correct gobblygook that is the cancer that invades our entire society. (Just this month the Park Service paid special tribute to the four African-American passengers as part of Black History month.)

I find it offensive that 57 million dollars was spent on a shrine that encourages the Oprah styled victimhood that we now seem to cherish. A simple monument listing the names of the passengers would have been respectful and appropriate. As Americans, we need to move beyond wallowing in 9/11 self pity.

In my video I analyze if the crescent is really an exclusive Islamic symbol.

Dear Zachary - A Movie Review

Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father is an outstanding documentary concerning the murder of Andrew Bagby by his girlfriend. The filmmaker created this film so that Bagby’s son, Zachary, would one day be able to learn about his father who he never got the chance to know.

What started out as a tribute to Andrew Bagby, evolved into a look at the custody battle between Shirley Turner (the murderer) and Zach’s paternal grandparents. The resulting legal malfeasance that occurred was stunning.

While not a fun movie to watch, it is an eye opener concerning the double standards and corruption that occurs every day in the legal system.

Woman Super Glues Teeth in her mouth

Here is a sad story about a Colorado woman who has to Super Glue her teeth in her mouth. She needs dental work, but she cannot afford the $9,000. Her insurance will only pay for $1,000.

The irony is that if she was an illegal alien, she would be eligible for free heath care. Yet, because this woman is an American citizen she does not qualify for dental help.

This led me to the question-

Can you renounce your citizenship and come back in the country illegally to get all the freebies?

English Woman Eats Man's Tongue

Weird story out of England in which Tracy Davies, 45, bit off her boyfriend’s tongue after she asked to give him a birthday kiss. It seems that Miss Davis was angry that she was unable to get pregnant. So she bit off her boyfriend’s tongue in a fit of anger.

If the roles had been reversed, I am sure that the man would be facing 20 years in prison for such a vicious attack. But when a woman mutilates a man (e.g., Bobbitt) it is usually considered to be funny. Just one of those politically correct double standards.

But the greater mystery is why this guy would want to stick his tongue in the mouth of this woman. Are English guys that desperate? Yikes.

Christian Salt

A Maryland man, Joe Godlewski, has invented something he calls Christian Salt. Christian Salt is salt that has been blessed by a Christian priest. Mr. Godlewski invented this salt as a substitute for Kosher salt.

Rabbi Sholem Fishbane, kosher administrator for the Chicago Rabbinical Council, is concerned about this development. It does not matter to Rabbi Fishbane if Godlewski is using this just as a money making idea. But he is concerned that there could be an ulterior motive.

We at RAMZPAUL plan to monitor this situation closely.

Reminds me of the Woody Allen’s New Testament Cigarettes:

OctoMom and Sperm Ghouls

Octo Mom is back in the news. It seems she had to call the police to her house eight times over the past two years. This included such emergencies such as a kid being locked in the bathroom and a kid had gone missing. It looks like she had troubles handling six kids, so she decided having eight more was probably a good idea.

Oh and here is an article from Australia urging to men to have a sperm will. It seems a number of women are harvesting sperm from dead or dying men.

Strange days indeed.

Designer Babies

"We can make a new one with the greatest ease-as many as we like. Unorthodoxy threatens more than the life of a mere individual; it strikes at Society itself."- Aldous Huxley, Brave New World

A fertility clinic in Los Angeles is now offering designer babies. With DNA testing, the clinic can examine various embryos and select the one that meets your designer baby criteria. For example, you can select the embryo that has the DNA traits of green eyes and blonde hair. The other embryos that don’t meet your aesthetic criteria can be flushed down the drain.

Right to Die?

Washington State will soon be the second state to legalize doctor assisted suicides. This initiative was pushed by an organization called Compassion and Choices. Here is my interview of Roland Halpern, Director of Compassion and Choices.

Mr. Halpern was unable to explain the philosophy of limiting assisted suicides to six months of expected death. After all, why such an arbitrary limit? If the justification of allowing assisted suicides is that an individual should be able to make such a decision because is his life, then why have any limits?

While the notion of a slippery slope can sound cliché, it frequently occurs. For example, when abortion was legalized it was assumed that abortion would only be performed in rare cases, such as rape or incest. It was never envisioned that abortion would become just another form of birth control. It was also never considered that babies could be killed up to the ninth month. Yet it happened.

I fear that allowing doctor assisted suicides can similarly open Pandora’s Box. While it might now be restricted to people who only have 6 months to live, there is no logical reason to keep that limit. One could legally argue that is discriminatory to people who are in chronic pain that are not expected to die in six months. Why should such people be denied this “treatment”?

Once we go down that road, we could end up in a situation such as abortion in which anyone can get an assisted suicide based on any reason. And, obviously, the potential for abuse and outright murder is high in such an environment.

Hard cases make bad law. While it is sad to see someone suffer, we always need to error on the side of life.

Babies with HIV - a good thing?

Colorado has proposed that all pregnant women receive a mandatory HIV test. I am opposed to such a mandatory test as this is an infringement of basic civil liberties. However, Colorado senator Dave Schultheis has stated his opposition to the bill on the grounds he fears that it would reduce the number of babies born with HIV. His theory is that seeing babies born with deadly diseases will help change immoral behavior.

His quote:

"What I'm hoping is that, yes, that person may have AIDS, have it seriously as a baby and when they grow up, but the mother will begin to feel guilt as a result of that," he continued. "The family will see the negative consequences of that promiscuity and it may make a number of people over the coming years begin to realize that there are negative consequences and maybe they should adjust their behavior."

While I believe that we should not reward bad behavior, the idea that we should wish that an innocent child should contract a horrible disease as an object lesson is, frankly, repulsive. I hope that the true Christians in Colorado quickly disassociate themselves with this guy.
