Is your food kosher?

http://www.unz.com/video/ramzpaul_is-your-food-kosher/

I had no idea what it meant for a food to be "kosher." I knew it had something to do with Orthodox Judaism dietary laws, but I thought it was pretty limited in scope. I figured you could find some kosher delis in New York City, and sometimes you can find kosher food in the "kosher" section of a supermarket.

But then I was told that the industry is HUGE. Pretty much most of our modern food distributors receive a kosher label. And this involves paying Orthodox Jewish organizations to "inspect" the food distribution process for a substantial fee.

These Jewish organizations (such as the Orthodox Union) use this money to lobby for Israel and Jewish causes.

I found this to be amazing as I would guess less than 1% of Americans desire to eat kosher.

Below is an app to help you track if a food brand is kosher certified or not.

This app can be used by people who wish to observe the kosher rules (such as Orthodox Jews and certain Christians sects). This app can also be used by people of other religions who don't want their food budget to fund Jewish causes.

As I am a believer of religious freedom, I am fine with either choice.
